A More Holistic Approach to Health, Rehab, and Fitness
You Want More Than Just Pain-Relief... You Want Your Freedom Back
You’re not just looking for the pain to stop — you want to move again. To run, lift, hike, or simply play with your kids without fearing another flare-up. But when you've tried it all and your body still locks up, it’s hard not to think: “Am I stuck here forever?”
The truth is, all the massage, stretching, rest, and painkillers in the world won't help you if you want to stay active. They might help temporarily, but they don’t fix the real issues — like how you move, how you hold tension, or how your body has learned to guard itself.
At TAYP, we treat the SYSTEMS beneath the symptoms. We teach your whole body how to move better — rebuilding strength, coordination, and trust all at once.
If you’re interested in learning how to train without hurting yourself, and you're ready to get back to the active life you want — you’re in the right place.
Your path to freedom starts here. Book your FREE Movement Assessment today.
Real Results. Real People.

- Kate NguyenPost COVID I was having horrible pain on my shoulders down to my right arm, super tight calves and painful achilles on my left leg! I spent my time on weekly visits to both physio and massage therapists but the problem persisted to the point that I thought I would have to give up what I was doing (beauty therapy). Until March 2024 I took the courage to contact Allan and did a TAYP Confidence program and trained with him, the pain has since dissipated! Allan has amazing combined knowledge of both Eastern and Western physiology and philosophy that helps to alleviate the pain through movements! My achilles no longer hurt, my calves are no where near tight, I don’t feel the pain of my rotator cuff, tennis elbow and wrist tendonitis and if work triggers them a little, I know what to do with what I learnt from Allan! I am not in the constant pain I was at the beginning of this year! Through this course of training with TAYP, I realized that only us to be responsible for our own pain and how to change it! I had so much fear within me that create layers of protection around my pain that I made it worse! I was relying on physio therapist and massage therapists to solve it for me (what an easy way!) but it won’t go until I stepped up to the RIGHT movements! Since then I have learnt the ways I move could build strength and soften my pain! Also, I now know that I can age but don’t have to age with pain! Allan told me “unless you are in the hospital not allowed to move, or you’ve broken your bones, there are always movements to do.” He is so right! Thank you Allan!read moreread less×Kate NguyenPost COVID I was having horrible pain on my shoulders down to my right arm, super tight calves and painful achilles on my left leg! The most frustrating aspect of my pain was that any exercise seemed to exacerbate it. As a result, I started avoiding all exercise, even walking. I saw many different kinds of therapists for help. I did make some progress with some of these health professionals. However, my problem with avoiding exercise persisted, as I was never able to exercise confidently without pain. I also became anxious about exercise as a result, and my avoidance grew. Allan was very different to all the other people that I had seen. He recognised the many layers to my difficulties, in particular the emotional component that had set in for me. After working with Allan, I had a repertoir of movement tools, with a comprehensive program that I now follow at home. I also had techniques and tools to manage the psychological component that had set in. As a result, I was able to shift my old and unhelpful patterns and replace them with a new approach to managing pain/avoidance. My goal on starting with Allan was to be able to do any exercise I wanted (running, gym, yoga, etc) without having to abandon it due to pain. I have absolutely achieved this goal. I now can attend several fitness classes during the week (pilates, gym, yoga), and I walk and run. I also know that if I do have pain, I have the knowledge to manage it effectively myself, and it quickly resolves. I would highly recommend TAYP to anyone who is experiencing pain, and whose life has been restricted in any way as a result of this pain.read moreread less×Kirsten DuncombeI experienced ongoing joint pain for many years, stemming from my two pregnancies. But then I found Allan, who, in a fairly short amount of time, took away 80–90% of the daily pain. He showed me a handful of exercises that put me on the right track. But the real value was in how he adjusted my perspective every time I got stuck in my recovery journey.

Thank you Alan 🐢 (I can't find a sexy turtle emoji 😂🤣) - bel boothApologies in advance for such a long review, but it’s truly been a journey and I want my story to help others in the same situation. At the risk of sounding over the top, Alan and Ben have literally changed my life. I suffered from lower back ailments on and off over the last 15 years probably due to a desk bound job, having children etc. Over the years I have had tried different forms of exercise to address it (yoga, pilates, swimming, running) but nothing dealt with the pain I was experiencing and some forms of exercise made it worse. A couple of years ago I aggravated my back terribly (L4.5 / L5.S1 annular disc irritation and sacroiliac ligament strain) by simply getting out of bed and was left with daily ongoing debilitating pain that just didn’t seem to get better. As everything is connected, over time I also started noticing my neck was being affected too. This combo resulted in daily headaches, pins& needles down my arms and pain shooting across my lower back and down my legs. I was visiting an amazing Chiropractor approximately every 10 days and he would get me moving again, my pain would be reduced but didn’t completely cease. He would get me to a point where I could move again but after 2 years of constant visits I realized I wasn’t doing enough to help myself out of my pain cycle. I felt pretty lost at Osteo and Physio. They hurt and felt worse after. Excercise hurt. Driving to the supermarket hurt. Gardening hurt. Sitting at my desk hurt. Sneezing hurt!! I was scared I would need an operation. My constant pain was exhausting - aging me faster, extinguishing all my joy (I couldn’t even bend down to tie my shoelaces without significant pain) it compromised my sleep (I couldn’t turn in bed without bracing myself) and produced an anxiety that took over my life. I was on a constant merry go round of appointments, pain killers and dreading basic things things like picking up my daughter or going to a picnic for fear of having to sit on the ground. It wasn’t great to feel that uncomfortable in my own body. I felt weak and vulnerable in everything I did. I was literally at my wits end with it all and frightened about my future. I was apprehensive about the commitment required at Train Away Your Pain (exhausted from pain and worried training would make it worse) but I was really desperate so decided to give it a go. Allan and Ben were beyond amazing. Life changing is definitely the words I would use. They meet you where you are. You start small and at an achievable consistent pace. They build your confidence as well teach you how to reconnect your mind to your body. They are gentle, encouraging and wise beyond their years about the science of movement, the psychology of pain and the ability we all have to overcome our own pain and discomforts. They sincerely care about your outcomes. I’ve been going for 4months now. My pain and discomfort level has gone from a high level 90% of the time to a low level probably 10% or less of the time. I now only go to my Chiropractor once every 5 weeks and I require far fewer adjustments. When I started at TAYP I couldn’t even lift the 6kg kettle bells. I’m now on 14kg kettles easily with no back pain. I can now sit comfortably at my desk and get in and out of the car like the 45year old I am instead of feeling like an 80 year old I felt like. I now only have sore muscles from training (the good sore) and not the pain, discomfort and alarm bells ringing in my mind when I moved awkwardly (the bad sore). My confidence is being restored and I play with my daughter again. I have my life back. Sleep is better. There’s much more joy. I wouldn’t have it all if it weren’t for Alan and Ben. When you are released from pain it’s literally like a curtain is being pulled back and the sunlight is flooding in again. I can’t recommend Alan and Ben at Train Away Your Pain highly enough. Highly recommend service! - Mia MosaicsTYPA tailored our fitness needs for my husband and I and their expertise and dedication have been instrumental in helping us move better. We both noticed significant improvements in our overall well-being, all thanks to TYPA tailored workout plans and encouragement. My husband had suffered from shoulder pain for decades and finally took the plunge with shoulder reconstruction operation on both shoulders 10 years ago and since the op he was very robotic in movement with minimal range of motion. But in 6 short weeks with TYPA he is now able to move with ease. It meant having to do homework after each session 3 times a week but the rewards have been outstanding. As for me, I had issues with my right shoulder from carrying babies on my right side hip so I felt out of alignment and my glutes had little to no strength. TYPA again tailored a program with remarkable results ensuring that I stay safe and maintain proper form. What we appreciate most is TYPA positive attitude and unwavering belief in our potential. TYPA enthusiasm is contagious, and it kept us motivated even at our weekly 5am sessions. We are truly grateful for everything TYPA have helped us with. His program helped me and still helping me to navigate through challenges. Examples; physical injuries, and medical challenges. I still remember when I broke my foot 🦶, my GP was saying cannot put any weight for at least half of year and cannot move
I actually started program witn Alan with Robocop cast and was out and about the cast within 1,5 months and back to normal exercise within 3 months. Not bad recovery, now only distant memory. The same apply to recovery after hernia surgery, again doctors sad no lifting 6 months. Obviously I was not training to be heave weight lifting champion, but was able to lift within limits and post surgery recoverty time was much more faster again!!! I drilled doctors why I shouldnt move around and do not any lift weights, the same blanket feedback was received about potential complications post fracture or surgery. If I followed instructions strictly it would of taken me much more longer time to recover and more pain. I have a long…long term injury affecting my movement, and Allan has really helped progress my healing. I loved Allan’s problem solving approach, I felt like we were working together, which was really important to me. The injury I have has caused a lot of disconnection and ‘amnesia’ in my movement. Allan’s innate ability to simplify and visualise concepts was so helpful in improving my ability to reestablish connections, leading to less stiffness and better movement. - Sasha HanicI've been training with Allan for about 2 years and I hate to think where I'd be now if I never tried TAYP. I'm very active nearly 50, running a swim school (which I intend to keep doing for another 20 years at least!) Pilates and Spin I thought would get me there but I started to get injuries that just wouldn't go away. Shoulder pain, lower back pain, neck pain, getting up in the morning I'd never know what to expect... I'd go see my Physio and get massages but doing a bit of research I realised I needed to up my game with movement and decided to give TAYP a go. I loved it! It wasn't just mindless reps but engaging and stimulating movement exercises. I didn't realise how much fun it would be and educational. I now know what to do when I get up in the morning to warm my body up, what to do if I feel some tightness and if I do get pain how to self massage it away! I'm more flexible than I was 20 years ago, know my body well and love learning more that I can even help my family & friends with. Yes it takes discipline to do daily movement but to be honest it is so motivating when seeing the results that it has given me. I'm so greatful to Allan and can't recommend TAYP enough. During my phone consult, I informed Allan that I had secured a place in the London Marathon, which I’d been waiting 3 years to run it! The catch, we had less than 5 months to get there. How I was going to run 42km when I couldn’t even run for the bus, I had no idea. But the thought of never being able to run again scared me more.
Every session was a stepping-stone towards race day, we built layer upon layer. All aspects, which impacted on being able to move, were addressed, Allan has all the pieces of the jigsaw puzzle and it comes together uniquely. But what Allan does awesomely is provide context and understanding; everything has a purpose for why you are doing it. The sessions are so inspiring.

Allan has taken me through some self massage techniques and exercises to help my individual injury's but also the group sessions have helped me gain the confidence and strength to get back very quickly to a base level i can start to build back up safely and with so much more awareness around how I'm moving. Getting back to swimming regularly and I'm feeling more powerful and connected to my body and how its moving in the water and just in general day to day as well! I cant wait to see how much more improvement i get in 6 months!! Allen is a patient and incredibly knowledgeable with the ability to make it all easy to understand what I'm doing and why. I have enjoyed being able to use the fly wheel and seeing how broad its scope is for strength and increasing coordination. I enjoyed learning how your format your classes and break down each part of your program. I have loved seeing how you incorperate complex movements and how you break them down so that people are coninuously learning how their bodies are able to move and have it transfer to activities of daily living. I haven't seen any other trainer/ fitness instructor incorperate skills and movement patterns the way that you have and although I was only breifly participating I feel I have gained and witnessed a newer fresher way of thinking about learning and incorperating aspects of movement into sessions. I really can see how much thought, consideration and care you have put into your clients and your program to help people discover what their bodies are capable of even with complex trauma and or limitations that they may experience. I tried every kind of approach, from every kind of discipline; but there was no real sense of progress or sustained benefit. Allen’s approach is the first where I feel I’ve made some kind of genuine dent in the problem; and am developing a set of tools to make progress. The angle Allen takes is very much East meets West in its mentality, focusing on fluidity and ease of motion, which I found refreshing - and in my case, effective. - Richard WilfordI had been following TAYP for a couple of years before taking the plunge and signing up as I wanted something different to traditional personal training. I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect but had goals in mind, those being flexibility, to reinvigorate my current training routine and a top priority being to eliminate or significantly reduce my elbow tendinitis. My wife and I had Ben as our coach. He is very knowledgeable, patient and extremely likeable to boot. He listened to our needs and gave us practical solutions to meet them. A big part of TAYP is of course recovery, which was an important factor in our training sessions. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to eliminate my tennis elbow completely and while it still flairs up occasionally in my daily workouts it is less often, less painful and most importantly Ben has given me the tools to detect and alleviate the pain quickly. He’s a great coach and it was a pleasure training with him.read moreread less×Richard WilfordI had been following TAYP for a couple of years before taking the plunge and signing up as I wanted something different to traditional personal training. I tried shock therapy, laser therapy, acupuncture, active release techniques, massages, and consulted different professionals, with little to no pain relief. The pain started to affect everything I did, to the point where I stopped moving as I no longer enjoyed the pain that came with it. Then I came across Allan at TAYP. Initially I was sceptical, tho I realised that I had exhausted all my options and needed to try something different. As Albert Einstein famously said, "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results." It was time for me to try something different, so I decided to reach out to Allan at TAYP. Choosing to work with Allan turned out to be one of the best decisions I've made. His approach was unlike anything I had experienced before, and most importantly, it was effective. Not only did he help me with my foot pain, but he also addressed other "squeaky" areas in my body that was starting to arise. What I find valuable, is that Allan has equipped me with a set of tools to manage the pain if it ever decides to make a comeback, or even prevent the pain from coming back. Allan and Ben are dedicated to their clients' well-being and possess a true passion for helping people on their path to recovery. What Train away your pain? I was curious and took me a few years to get my head around it and what a difference a year or so makes. from the offset Train away your PAIN (TAYP) approached things differently, they asked a lot of questions and devised strength work plus recovery practices. My problem was knee pain and various niggles and it meant pain all week after soccer and limited ability to play, sometimes I couldn’t stay on the field for more than 15 minutes. after working with Ben for a while, the body got stronger and recovery was quicker, suddenly I could play a whole game and feel better during the week (and score goals plus make the grand final too). The approach is also different as in my case we spent a lot of time talking and breaking old habits and adopting new ones to promote a stronger body and recovery work. I can't recommend these guys enough, I was at the end of the line ready to give up soccer like most people do when they are older and spent lots of time & money on stop gaps measures but with patience, understanding, knowledge and from Ben at TAYP plus putting in the work I have tools for life to stay active. so instead of living in pain, making excuses and staying away from activities, thanks to TAYP I did just that trained away the pain.read moreread less×Peter BanicevicI tried the rest, you name it Physio, chiro, acupuncture nothing seemed to alleviate pain when playing sports (mainly soccer) as a 50 year old but Ben and the Train away team were different. - Kirsten DuncombeI experienced ongoing joint pain for many years, stemming from my two pregnancies. I would highly recommend TAYP to anyone who is experiencing pain, and whose life has been restricted in any way as a result of this pain.Nicki PittorinoTraining with Allan has made me feel 10 years younger! - Henry LamAfter spending almost a decade in construction with an injured back and trying physios and chiros for years, I had almost settled on living with the pain. But then I found Allan, who, in a fairly short amount of time, took away 80–90% of the daily pain. He showed me a handful of exercises that put me on the right track. But the real value was in how he adjusted my perspective every time I got stuck in my recovery journey.
It’s been a little over 3 months, and I’ve gone from having pain while sitting on a sofa to jogging without pain. Where Allan is different from others is that he arms you with the tools so that if things ever start to hurt again, you now have a way forward.read moreread less×Henry LamAfter spending almost a decade in construction with an injured back and trying physios and chiros for years, I had almost settled on living with the pain. I live with Ankylosing Spondylitis and needed to find a way to keep moving while managing pain. I knew I needed to exercise and strength train but pain often held me back, feeling nervous about making things worse. Allan has passed on skills and supporting thought systems to manage self recovery and move safely, while building confidence in what I can manage and how to listen to my body. I’ve trained fortnightly for 2 years now, and take many simple exercises into my day to day routine. These routines help me manage a stressful desk job as well as the Ankylosing Spondylitis pain. For the past year my partner has joined me and we’ve loved training as a couple. He has different issues to me, a physically demanding job as a tradesman, and Allan has done well to accommodate both of us. We’re both stronger and more comfortable in our bodies and haven’t needed the physio since training with TAYP. We’re both 52 years old and not into regular gyms at all so it’s been wonderful to have enjoyable sessions tailored to our needs.read moreread less×JoannaAllan at TAYP has been brilliant for both my partner and I, definitely worth the investment.

Frequently Asked Questions
Allan is a certified as a Personal Trainer within the Australian fitness industry — but what he does goes far beyond the standard PT scope. His work resembles what an Exercise Physiologist might do: assessing movement, teaching proper technique, and guiding clients through meaningful, long-term change.
More importantly, Allan has spent over 30 years studying movement and martial arts, helping clients resolve issues most professionals would call “unfixable.” He combines practical experience with deep anatomical understanding to solve real-world pain problems. This isn’t guesswork — it’s guided by results.
Don’t just take our word for it — read the reviews and see what our clients say.
There are many types of chronic pain — and even more root causes. Rather than list every diagnosis, here’s a simple rule of thumb: if you’ve been medically cleared to exercise, TAYP can help.
That’s because movement — done right — is one of the most powerful tools for healing. We don’t just treat pain. We teach your body how to move better, so it can support you in doing the things you love again.
